Nigel joined in judo classes at his local youth club at the age of ten. In 1979, sporting a senior Blue Belt, he found himself left in charge of the club! By chance Devon judo master John Goldman, who often came to Crediton to visit his parents, called in at the youth club one practice evening. The Centre's youth leader told John of the club's plight. Soon John was making regular visits to the Crediton club to give support. To further his career Nigel travelled by train to John's Exmouth Judo Centre twice, sometimes three times, a week. Nigel took every opportunity to attend courses and events and was particularly attracted to learning the older skills and art of judo and ju-jitsu. It wasn't long before Nigel ventured out attending classes in karate and aikido as well as his regular visits to train at Exmouth which he continues to make today. Besides all his enthusiasm and dedication to judo Nigel always found time, and still does, to be actively involved in other sports, playing football for a local team and surfing. This sporting trait is in the family with his son keen on judo and cricket. Holding the rank of 5th Dan judo and 4th Dan ju-jitsu, Nigel runs our Crediton, Ottery St Mary, Stockland and Clyst Heath, Exeter, Devon Judo Centres as well as a senior class in Crediton. He is the UBA Technical Director. Nigel can
