Steven Walter

3rd Dan

Steven joined the Exmouth Devon Judo Centre in 1981. As a youngster he gained his Junior Black Belt before moving into the senior ranks where he achieved Black Belt 1st Dan aged seventeen.

Moving from Devon to join the army, his new military career didn't put a stop to his judo. He soon had a judo club up and running at his barracks. Although he didn't bring any of his pupils up to Olympic standards, one of his pupils became an Olympic champion! Yes - runner Dame Kelly Holmes.

After five years military service Steven returned to Devon and his judo roots. Now married with two daughters, both judo enthusiasts, Steven teaches at our Ashburton, Paignton, Dawlish, Mortenhampstead, Newton Abbot, Honiton and Plymouth Centres as well as Blundells Preparatory School, Tiverton, and Trinity School, Teignmouth. Steven also runs a senior class in Newton Abbot.

Steven holds the rank of Black Belt 3rd Dan and is the Development Officer for the Universal Budo Association. He also holds a qualification in Health and Safety (NEBOSH) which he puts to good use advising the UBA on safety issues and carrying out periodical risk assessments at our Devon Judo Centres.
